Omphalocele, also known as exomphalos, is a birth defect of the abdominal wall. The infant's intestines, liver, or other organs stick outside of the belly through the belly button
In this particular case yes he survived and is healthy. They slowly put the intestines back into place by doing multiple surgeries.
Yes, it can be detected through a screening test (prenatal test). It might result in an abnormal result on a blood or serum screening test and sometimes can be seen on a ultrasound depending on the severity.
Is this not considered gastroschisis? The bowel is not within a sac or covered?
this is most definitely gastroschisis,, if it was an omphalocele it would be in a membrane (sac).
It is indeed gastroschisis, and yes,it usually is seen before birth if ultrasound is done corectly and in time.
Iβm sorry, I donβt think this is exomphalos (omphalocele). This is either ruptured exomphalos or gastrochisis (bowel not covered by membrane) ππ»
My grandson was born with this condition but not quite so many out. He had to stay in the hospital until he had a bowel movement which meant his intestines were awake a working well. It took 1 month.
