Placenta

Placenta

A very close-up view of the placenta, also known as the tree of life! 👶🏼😷 . The human body's ability to create an organ between a mother and child during pregnancy is quite remarkable. This temporary organ is called the placenta, and it is the primary site of oxygen and nutrient transfer from the mother to the fetus. Additionally, the placenta is responsible for fetal carbon dioxide removal from the mother's circulation. The placenta is attached to the wall of the uterus, and the umbilical cord develops from the placenta. If the mother suffers organ damage during pregnancy, fetal stem cells migrate across the placenta into maternal circulation to help repair the damaged organ!
