Battle's sign consists of bruising over the mastoid process as a result of extravasation of blood along the path of the posterior auricular artery. Thesign is named after William HenryBattle. Battle's sign takes at least one day to appear after the initial traumatic basilar skull fracture, similar to raccoon eyes.

This is a Battle Sign resulting from basilar skull fracture with hemorrhage into the mastoid air sinus. Watch for CSF leakage from the external auditory canal, check for cranial nerve 7 and 8 function.
