These are intraoperative pictures taken during my mastoidectomy last August. I had been having severe pain behind my left ear for several months. I have a history of prior retrosigmoid craniectomy. Long story short, I consulted the neurosurgeon who did my previous operations. Multiple tests were ordered to check for infection and physical problems. I was sent to a neurotologist, who agreed the area needed exploring since there was visible information. What was found during surgery was inflamed bone wax. Apparently the bone wax used during my prior operations had migrated into the mastoid cavity. The bone was debrieded and washed out. These pictures show what was found and the clean cavity. The operation was successful and I have not had the symptoms since.
