Abrasion

Abrasion

A 15 years old girl received an abrasion after being hit by a car. She fell down and scraped her knee with the concrete. She claimed to feel pain during movement and even during sitting still( not moving). What is the best treatment and the diagnosis? Could she have broken some bones?

There are no broken bones, it’s just a scratch from the friction, maybe that’s why her knee hurts, but you just need to keep the wound clean and in a few days everything will be fine

Could you tell the type of pain ? Is there any swelling ? Movement restriction? If u suspect a fracture get an X-ray done , for the abrasion apply local antiseptics , get an injection of tetanus toxoid , take oral antibiotics to prevent any sepsis

Why?

Was XR unremarkable? If XR wasn’t done I would order just to make sure there is no hairline fracture or worse. Check range of movement. Tetanus shot, some antibiotic ointment and gauze to cover.

No , then most probably there is no fracture that's probably due to abrasion but still get an x-ray done & even if there's no fracture , but if pain exists or if any pus formn/fever occurs in the wound consult your local doctor
