Diabetes insipdus is occur due to deficiency of ADH hormone and causes polydypsia,polyphagia,polyuria,but the urine is tasteless while in case of diabets mellitus..it is sweet as the word indicates mellitus means "sugar" and this is cause due to lack of insulin or inability of the receptors to bind with insulin hormone.

DM is characterized by impaired production of insulin by the pancreatic islet of langerhans. On the other hand, DI os characterized by impaired action of ADH.
