Why fatty acids are classified as single lipids?

It maybe due to the fact that non esterified fatty acids are not conjugated with any other molecule like alcohol,phosphate,catecholamine etc, and they are a single molecule which acts as the building block for lipids. It's just a hunch πŸ˜…
