What are the complications that may arise after the device implantation in occipital nerve stimulation?
Although occipital nerve stimulation is considered a safe and effective procedure, there are some complications that may arise during the procedure or may be a postoperative consequence. The complications can be divided into two categories: hard-ware related complication and biological complication. Hardware related complications include: • Lead displacement. One of the most frequent complication which maybe due to mechanical trauma • Lead fracture • Battery failure • Hardware malfunction • Repositioning of the generator The biological complications include: • Infection at the site of surgery • Skin erosion • Pain and numbness at lead site • Muscle spasm • Wound dehiscence • Seroma • Hematoma
