What do cancer stages and grades mean?
Staging of cancer is a system doctors use to determine the size and spread of cancer in body. Stage 0 – early form Stage I – localized Stage II – early locally advanced Stage III – late locally advanced Stage IV – metastasized Grading of cancer is a system doctors use to determine how morphologically differentiated cells are. Grade I – small and well-formed glands, close together Grade II – large glands with more space between them Grade III – large glands with even more space, dark with different shapes Grade IV – gland cells are not seen anymore, cancer cells do not let them form glands Grade V – no glands, only sheet of cancer cells present throughout the tissue
