Development of diverticula in colon is called diverticulosis. Diverticula are abnormal pocket-like structures in the colon with high tendency for inflammation and infection. These pouches or pockets can appear naturally when certain parts of colon are under pressure. Diverticula don't resolve on their own. They often remain asymptomatic therefore don't need treatment.
