What is the difference between gram-positive and gram-negative
The gram positiv bacteria can have up to 25 layers of peptidoglycane (Murein) and that’s why they’re easy to stain. The gram negativ bacteria only have a thin layer of Murein and an additional outer membrane that can selectively regulate the transport through the murein layers to the inner membrane. That’s why the most drugs with the murein as it’s target didn’t work on gram negative bacteria!
Ability of the bacteria to retain gram stain even after adding acetone
Gram positiv has blue appearance in gram stain and gram negative red due to safranin gram positive has thick cell wall but gram negativ has thin cell wall
Gram is a term and process used to staining the bacteria. The bacteria stained know as+ve and not stained bacteria known as gram-ve bacteria
